Huizhen Wang, who is a technical director supporting one of Hexagon’s major customers in China, explains her role and the satisfaction she gains from using technology to help our customers.
1. What is your role within Hexagon?
I have two major responsibilities, one is that of technical applications director, which covers new system testing, customised solution development and training for metrology products and software applications. My other role is that of technical director for a key customer project. The customer uses our solutions to ensure the quality of its products at each stage of production, from development through to new product launch. My support both helps the client and enhances the reputation of Hexagon’s applications.
2. How did you come to pursue your current career?
My background in metrology and the beautiful scenery of the city of Qingdao, where I am based for Hexagon.
3. Is there a mentor who encouraged you?
Yes, my tutor at university is a successful entrepreneur and was very helpful to me. Now I’m surrounded by family and friends, who are very supportive of my career ambitions.
4. Which aspects of your job do you most enjoy and why?
What I find most satisfying about my job is ensuring customers have the best products possible, based on the latest technology, which in turn improves Hexagon’s reputation.
5. What challenges have you faced and how did you overcome them?
One of the biggest challenges is getting to grips with new product requirements, which involves communicating with the global Hexagon team so that we can tap into their wider expertise and work efficiently with our sister factories. We ensure fluid communication through a combination of remote working tools, including ConCall, Microsoft Teams and Webex.
6. Which professional achievements are you most proud of and why?
I am most proud of my involvement in a smart manufacturing project which we developed for smart phones and then extended to watches, as well as audio products.
7. What advice would you give to young women considering a career in your field?
Learn as much as you can about new technology and be open to fresh ideas that will help you to enjoy a healthy and happy life.
