Industrial furnace and oven manufacturer makes cutting eight times faster

The Carbolite Gero factory in Derbyshire, United Kingdom has produced industrial furnaces and ovens since 1938. The ovens manufactured here can reach up to 1200 °C and are used in a variety of industries from aerospace, through medical, to universities.

To cut installation materials, the company originally used a 3-axis Biesse router, but Carbolite decided to implement a robotic cell in its place.

After approaching CNC Robotics Ltd, Carbolite now has in place a robotic cell that uses a KUKA robot arm programmed with ALPHACAM CAD/CAM software and RoboDK.

In doing so, the company has made its cutting speeds up to eight times faster.

Read the full case study to learn how Carbolite Gero integrated ALPHACAM programs into the robotic cell, and how the cell helps drive workflow efficiency while protecting the CNC machine and industrial environment.

Simulation is vital for checking correct posture, singularity, wrist and elbow, and axis limits. The importance of ‘what you see is what you get’ is critical. If it crashes on screen it’ll crash in the real world. Using software such as ALPHACAM and RoboDK means you can correct all that before we go anywhere near the robot itself. – Jason Barker, CNC Robotics founder and owner
